Paul was brought out to the judgment seat and surrounded by many people. The words of those who accused him were serious, but they could not prove them, and Paul made his defense, saying that he had done no wrong. Here, we must not understand Paul’s boldness as the loudness of his voice or as an unbending character. Because he believed in the Lord, who had saved him from sin, even as he made the facts clear, he could walk the path entrusted to him without being swept away by people’s demands. That Lord is the One who, through the baptism He received from John, had all the sins of the world, which include the sins of our entire lifetime, transferred to Him once and for all, shed His blood on the Cross to pay the price of those sins, and rose again from death.
