On the very next day after the Lord had said that Paul would testify in Rome as well, an oath was made by more than forty people not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. Far from disappearing, the threat came more concretely to the man who had heard the word of the Lord. We, too, are bewildered as to why such a thing has happened when we meet difficulties on the path of believing in the gospel of the water and the Spirit and serving the Lord. But even though the Lord’s word did not remove the threat, the threat could not overthrow the Lord’s word. As we follow the hand of God that protected Paul during that one day, we must learn the faith that relies on the Lord even while seeing the threat just as it is.
