The people on the ship saw the south wind blowing softly and thought they had obtained their desire, but not long after, they were driven by a tempestuous wind. On the same sea their circumstances changed drastically, and they could not even steer the ship in the direction they wanted. While they struggled for many days, even the hope of surviving disappeared, but Paul stood in the midst of the people and told them to take heart. What made those words possible was not that he had seen in advance the wind dying down, but that he believed the word God had spoken to him.
