When an uproar arises where the gospel of the water and the Spirit has been preached, by what should we judge whether that word is right? In Thessalonica there were people who heard the word and followed Paul and Silas, but those who were envious gathered a mob and rushed to the house of Jason. Since such different responses came out within the same city, we must examine on what basis Paul preached Jesus before we look at people’s welcome or opposition. Our hearts, too, are easily shaken by the words around us, so I hope you will learn from this passage where we should place the assurance of salvation.
