Paul’s testimony of salvation did not end with the story of how his sins had been washed away. Paul made clear to his listeners even why Jesus, who had met him and saved him—namely, the One who had all the sins of the world transferred to Him through the baptism He received from John, shed His blood on the Cross to pay the price of those sins, and rose again from death—had sent him to preach the gospel of the water and the Spirit to the Gentiles. When he said this before the Jews, fierce shouting arose, and Paul was placed in danger of being examined under scourging. In this word, both what a saved witness is to preach and the hardships he went through appear together. We must first see the Lord who sent Paul, and see to whom the salvation He has given must be preached.
