The people who seized Paul in the temple cried out that he had brought Greeks into the temple. Their words threw the whole city into an uproar and led to actions to kill Paul, but the Bible separately makes clear what they had actually seen. Even when we are surrounded by the convictions of many people, what we must truly verify is not the loudness of voices but the facts. In particular, when the thought that we are acting for God comes first, we can regard our own judgment as if it were God’s will and accept even harming people as justified. In this uproar, we must clearly distinguish between the salvation Paul preached and the accusation against him.
